Hollywood Education and Literacy Program needed ‘help’ raising funds to promote their services.
Supplied with a moving story sent in by the mother of a child with attention deficit disorder which detailed her disposition and her sons difficult struggle with learning, we illustrated and designed the H.E.L.P. brochure under the creative direction of Margo Chase.
We referenced old school notebooks, scribbled, and spilled out Scrabble letters to convey the arduous climb towards the light of literacy. In the beginning, letters seem heavy and scary, even confusing, crushing down on the scribble boy. As the the story reaches dénouement, the struggle is resolved with the discovery of H.E.L.P. illustrating the scribble boy climbing towards resolution in his mother’s quote.
The rust of confusion in this storybook inspiration distills and the pages become more clear, ending with a short detail of the program methodology before the back cover. The End.
